Ruby's: Shoobie Doobie Down to Ruby's
Typical American fare in a setting reminiscent of a classic 50's diner. The first Ruby's was opened on the Newport Beach Pier in the 1980's. Since then nearly every pier in Southern California has a Ruby's neatly situated at the end. Sometimes while dining here the pier will sway back and forth. Don't be alarmed :-) it is only the resupply ships from the offshore oil platforms docking alongside the pier. On a clear day the island of Catalina from every table.
After a long work out to the end of the pier, rewward yourself with a rootbeer float or an orange shake. The speciality here is the burgers and you can choose from beef, turkey, veggie or chicken patties. My favorite is the Beach Burger served on grilled parmesan bread with avocado and cheese. Ruby's also serves terrific Cobb and Chinese salads, sandwiches, and entrees such as meatloaf or fried chicken.
The Abbey: Good Enough for Mark McGuire
The Abbey was made famous by Mark McGuire who wore a red Abbey hat up to bat when he was chasing the all time homerun record. People from all over the country still call The Abbey and ask to purchase these hats. I'm fairly certain Mr. McGuire dines for free these days! His baseball jersey and photos of him are displayed on the wall and you might just look up from your beer one day to see him sitting next to you.
The Portobello burger is a nice change from the typical hamburger that other places offer. I love the pesto bread...made in front of your eyes in the brick oven that sits behind the bar. Pizzas are made in the same fashion. This is one of the few places I know of that serves Limbic, a raspberry ale, on tap. The Abbey has an excellent wine list including many from Austrailia. I prefer the Hefeweizen with a big wedge of lemon. Bartenders Kyle and Chris are primarily responsible for encouraging me to go to Europe solo. After too many beers I believed them!
Walt's Wharf: Out of the Ordinary Seafood
Be prepared to wait awhile at this establishment. Walt's is well known for serving delicious clam chowder and only the very freshest of seafood. Steaks and chicken are also offered for those who prefer their food to come from the turf and not the surf.
Kinda Lahaina: It's in the Name
This place has been a local hangout for seafood and oversized breakfast for decades. You'll swear some of the waitresses have been there just a long! Happy Hour M-F
Sunset Specials served from 4:00 to 7:00 include Tri-Tip and steaks.
Cafe La Fayette: Great food in a casual, pretty setting
A nice restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good and very diverse menu with lots to choose from. The restaurant is decorated in shades of yellow with retro advertising posters. The service is always good, and the owners are friendly. Nice bar and wine list. Cafe La Fayette is a favorite amoung locals. Restaurant looks very pretty at night.
Everything on the menu is good. I love their lemon rice soup, just excellent. All their salads and pastas are very hearty, and I also love their breakfast wraps. The fried calamari with spicy tomato sauce is a wonderful appetizer. The chinese chicken salad is also good. The prices are reasonable. Breakfast and lunch are under $10. Dinner about $15. You won't be dissapointed.
Charo Chicken, Fresh, Fast, Fire Grilled: Picnic Dining Made Easy
Charo Chicken is a take out or delivery chicken restaurant. There are some chairs and tables, but no atmosphere.
Charo Chicken is chicken made fast. This is healthy fast food. Very tasty flame broiled whole chickens marinated in fruit juices, herbs and spices. Dinner plates come with choice of side dishes, such as spanish rice, corn on the cob, beans and tortillas. I love the stuffed Charo potato, with chicken, guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. The food is really good. The chicken quesadilla is also very tasty. Charo Chicken would make a great picnic lunch. Make sure you bring lots of napkins, the chicken comes with garlic butter, which is delicious but very messy.
Cold Stone Creamery: Ice Cream Heaven
Pecans, brownie fudge &
carmel cone by pigletsmom
Send Photo to a Friend Cold Stone Creamery is a very good ice cream shop that stands where Grandma's ice cream used to be. Grandma's was an institution for years, but sold the store a few years ago. Cold Stone Creamery is an excellent replacement. Cold Stone Creamery does not just serve ice cream, they mix the ice cream with candy, fruit and syrup to create a decadent creation served in a oversized waffle cone. Just the right treat to accompany you on your walk of the pier.
Well I like to create my own concoction. Oreo cookie ice cream with reeses peanut butter cup. But how can you go wrong with ice cream, candy and chocolate?
Nick's Deli: Best breakfast burritos
Nick's makes a huge breakfast burrito and it is by far the best I've had anywhere. There is usually a long line on weekend mornings. Only a few seats so most of the business is take-out.
